北京时间6月13日，康涅狄格大学主帅丹-赫尔利在参加一档名为《LeBatardShow》播客节目中谈到了自己拒绝湖人的这件事。
赫尔利表示：“我听说过最糟糕之一的说法是，这是我为了改善自己在康涅狄格大学的处境而采取的一种杠杆手段。我不需要什么抬价手段。我们连续两年都赢得了全国冠军。”
